When I first started using Zwift I was using the box my KICKR came in to put my laptop on. This meant the laptop was very far away and I couldn’t control it while actually on my bike. I was looking at alternatives when my KICKR developed the knocking noise I mentioned in my previous post.
With the discount I got from Wahoo due to that issue I thought I’d buy myself the KICKR Desk. RRP is £199, which is a lot for a desk, but with the discount this made it a much more reasonable £79.99 exc. VAT and shipping.
What do I think of the KICKR Desk? It’s well made, the tops pretty heavy duty and there’s a reasonable amount of space as you can see in the pictures below. The non-slip texture on the top is really good and keeps everything in place. The legs are quite heavy and will take a lot of punishment, I reckon I could sit on top of this thing and there would be no buckling or damage.
The top has a channel at the front and back which to me looks like you can place a tablet in to keep it upright, or run your charging cables through to keep them out of the way. There’s also 2 holes on 2 of the edges for hanging a towel through, however I find these to be on the wrong side.
The wheels on the desk don’t have any form of locking mechanism and during hard sessions I’ve knocked it and sent it rolling away, which is worrying. However, this did highlight how good the non-slip material is as nothing moved. I’d rather the desk didn’t roll away though.
Is it worth the RRP? That’s debatable. In my research to find a desk/table suitable I wasn’t find much below £170 in the market, especially for anything height adjustable, so compared to £199 for a heavy-duty desk designed with indoor training in mind, this isn’t outside the bounds of reasonable.
However, I reckon I could build something for a lot less money that would do the job. Would it be as nice or well made? No.
